Shredathon
What is a Shredathon?
A shredathon was our club’s answer to the search for a new fund raiser for our club. We had recently lost a spring time fund raiser. I am a chartered accountant and over the years during tax season people would ask me “what do I do with my old documents?” They wanted to safely dispose of them and protect their personal information. I had an epiphany and thought we could do something similar to what the “boy scouts” do in our community. They set up tree chipping stations just after Christmas and chip trees for a donation. I thought we could set up a record shredding station and shred people’s records just after tax season.
The community tie in is very clear and the project is simple. By shredding we are protecting private information; by using a recycling service to provide the shredding we are protecting the environment, by involving the community we are reaching out and providing a public service and giving the opportunity for service to others.
